Hypnosis FAQs

Q1. WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Ans : Hypnosis is actually a very natural state that nearly all people experience to varying degrees throughout their lives.  Hypnosis is simply a relaxed, yet focused, state of awareness.  Whenever you are deep enough in this state you are at some level of hypnosis.  As just one example, most of us have had the experience of Read More

Q2. WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?

Ans : Hypnotherapy is simply a process by which a trained hypnotist effects changes in thoughts, attitudes, behaviors, and emotions through suggestions, stories, metaphors, guided imagery, and creative visualization, during a state of hypnosis.  And although it is sometimes used in psychotherapy, hypnosis is most often used to help ordinary people with everyday problems.

Q3. CAN I BE HYPNOTIZED?

Ans : Yes, very likely, so.  Nearly anyone can be hypnotized. People of very low intelligence, very young children and people with certain mental illnesses typically cannot be hypnotized. Conversely, people of higher intelligence tend to more easily go into hypnosis.  However, even though the vast majority of people can be hypnotized, some people – due to their deep-seated psychological need to be in control – are so resistant to hypnosis that it makes it virtually impossible.   The short answer is: since all hypnosis is essentially self-hypnosis, with few exceptions, nearly anyone that wants to go into hypnosis can go into hypnosis.

Q4. DOES HYPNOSIS REALLY WORK?

Ans : Absolutely!  In fact, hypnosis has been used by millions of people – including many very successful people – to decrease negative emotions, increase positive emotions, create wanted behaviors, eliminate unwanted behaviors, achieve life goals, create a stronger sense of well-being, be more successful in business and sports, and make many other desired positive life changes. (Check out our list of famous people that have used hypnosis at the bottom of this page) Thousands of scientific studies over many years have established the effectiveness of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. Hypnosis has been sanctioned by the American Medical Association since the 1950’s and is used in many settings, both medical and non-medical.

Q5. DOES HYPNOSIS INVOLVE MIND-CONTROL?

Ans : Despite its long history of success in helping people to make positive life changes, hypnosis, hypnotism and hypnotherapy are sometimes misunderstood by the general public. These misconceptions are typically the result of how hypnosis is often portrayed in films, television and stage shows, which often involves the concept of “mind-control.” But that is not the reality of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. There is really no such thing as “mind-control” in hypnosis since all hypnosis is essentially self-hypnosis and no one can be compelled to do things under hypnosis that they are not predisposed to do in a typical conscious state.

Q6. WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY INITIAL HYPNOTHERAPY SESSION?

Ans : During your initial consultation, the consulting hypnotist assesses your specific goals and needs. Your personal hypnotherapy plan is then based upon your input and feedback, in addition to the consulting hypnotist’s knowledge of the methods best used to aid you in making the desired changes. This proven process means that the plan is personalized and put into place with your full understanding and approval.

Q7. CAN I LEARN SELF-HYPNOSIS?

Ans : Absolutely! We can teach you a process of self-hypnosis that allows you to effectively use this powerful tool to create well-being and continue making positive changes throughout your life!
